Women police better communicators

In this brief radio segment, Stefan Feller explains that the United Nations seeks as any women police as possible for police missions around the world, because they tend to be good at de-escalation and “are just better communicators.”

Jay Newton-Small also makes these points in “Broad Influence: How Women Are Changing the Way America Works.” The note here for police is both her findings and my experience at the Madison PD — it takes a tipping point of 20% women to realize their full, collaborative power. Perhaps, overall, policing is most effective in those situations.
