In-custody deaths in India

This report from Human Rights Watch documents 17 cases of deaths in police custody in India and concludes that the government has failed to implement accountability mechanisms, resulting in impunity for responsible officials. According to one advocate, “The police as an organization has to decide whether shielding bad policing, illegal policing, and what amounts to murder is of value to their efficiency.”
