Crisis in Caracas

This article profiles conditions in Caracas, Venezuela, once known as the Paris of South America, but now called the world’s most dangerous city. With over 3,000 murders last year, the police and military are reportedly overwhelmed. Ordinary families can barely afford funerals, while the rich live in barricaded homes and “drive around in tank-type SUVs. Even they rarely go out at night to clubs or bars preferring instead to gather in friends’ houses where they sleep over rather than brave the unlit streets.”
