Efficiency review of UK police

This column summarizes findings from an independent review of police efficiency and effectiveness in the UK and provides links to several working papers. One curious finding is that while crime has decreased, and measures of police effectiveness have increased, the public’s perception of crime has gotten worse, not better. Also highlighted is the challenge of devising an equitable formula for allocating financial assistance from the national government to the country’s local police forces.
